Over the last decade, the Transgender flag has gained significant prominence in the public sphere, due in part to the increasing push for Transgender rights and the many debates that have been initiated on the topic. Helms noted this was in order to “symbolise us trying to find correctness in our own lives.”. Helms also noted that the design is as such that no matter which way you fly the flag, it will always be correct. On most major platforms, the emoji depicts a flag waving in the wind that has, starting from the top, a red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet stripe. The emoji is a combination of the White Flag emoji and the Rainbow emoji. and white in the middle for those who are transitioning or feel they are ‘neutral’ or no gender. The Rainbow Flag emoji, also popularly called Pride Flag emoji, was added to Emoji 4.0 in 2016. The flag is made up of five equal stripes – two blue – symbolising the traditional colour for baby boys, two pink – symbolising the traditional colour for baby girls. Trans woman Monica Helms, an activist and author, designed the Transgender flag in 1999, and it was first flown at a Pride Parade in Phoenix, Arizona (USA) later that year.
